Password Manager & Login Basics

A free tool that keeps every password safe on YOUR computer — nothing is sent over the internet. Built simple, for anyone, no computer experience needed.

💡
What is this? A password manager is a safe digital box that remembers all your website passwords for you — so you only have to remember ONE password, called your Master Password. Everything stays on this computer. Nothing is ever sent over the internet.
1
Create your Master Password
Go to the My Password Vault tab. Type a password you will remember — three random words plus a number works great, like purple7bicycle. Type it a second time to confirm, then click Create.
2
Write it down and keep it safe
Write your Master Password on paper and put it somewhere safe — like a drawer, not taped to your screen. Nobody, not even us, can recover it for you if it's lost. That's what keeps it safe from hackers.
3
Save your first login
Click + Add New Login. Type the website name (like "Gmail"), your username or email, and your password. Click Generate if you want the tool to create a strong one for you. Click Save.
4
Use a saved password to log in
Come back to this page any time, unlock with your Master Password, find the website in your list, and click Copy. Then go to the login box on the website and paste it (right-click → Paste, or Ctrl+V).
5
Back up your vault
Click Download Backup in the vault. Save that file to a USB drive or a safe folder. If this computer ever breaks, you can bring the backup file to a new one and unlock it with the same Master Password.
6
Already have passwords saved in Chrome or Edge?
You can bring them all in at once. In Chrome or Edge, go to Settings → Passwords → Export Passwords (in Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Saved Logins → ⋯ → Export). Then in your vault, click Import From Browser and choose that file.
7
Lock it when you're done
Click Lock Vault when you're finished, or it will lock itself automatically after 5 minutes of no activity — just like a phone screen locking itself.
⚠️
There is no "Forgot Password" button. This tool never sees or stores your Master Password anywhere — that's exactly what makes it safe. But it also means if you forget it, your saved logins cannot be recovered by anyone, including Custom Design Systems. Please keep it written down somewhere safe.
✓ Do
Use a different password for every website. If one site gets hacked, the others stay safe.
✓ Do
Make passwords longer, not weirder. Three or four random words (like purple7bicycle) beats short ones with symbols.
✓ Do
Turn on Two-Step Verification whenever a website offers it — it texts or emails you a code as a second lock on your account.
✓ Do
Change a password right away if you hear that a company you use was hacked.
✗ Don't
Never tell anyone your password over the phone or in an email. Real companies, banks, and IT support will never ask for it.
✗ Don't
Don't click links in emails that say "your account is locked, click here." Instead, open your browser and type the website's address yourself.
✗ Don't
Don't write your Master Password on a sticky note on your monitor. Keep it in a drawer, wallet, or somewhere private.
✗ Don't
Don't use easy-to-guess passwords like your birthday, pet's name, or "password123."
